Why Survival Holidays Should be on Everyone’s Bucket List

It takes a certain type of person to want to join us out here in Guyana. Sometimes, the people who come are seasoned survivalists, while we’re also more than accustomed to welcoming inexperienced travelers.

“Survival holidays” might seem like an odd phrase. We really should emphasise that Bushmasters don’t deal in holidays. Our survival trips are not right for you if you’re looking to relax … the whole point is that you’re fighting against the natural elements of the jungle or the desert. We would, however, encourage you to consider swapping your holiday to Lanzarote for something a bit more adventurous. For argument’s sake, we’ll just call these more adventurous trips survival holidays!

Quick disclaimer: obviously we’re going to promote survival holidays, as we supply them. We’re not trying to pretend that we’re completely unbiased here, but the points we make will still be valid, and our experience over the years has given us a great idea of the kinds of people that enjoy our trips.

Break out of your comfort zone

Plenty of people swear by the mantra that you should do at least one thing every day that scares you. While such hard and fast rules can sometimes be a bit generalised, the sentiment here is sound. You’ll develop as a person if you’re brave enough to test yourself in the environment that our survival holidays offer.

Breaking out of your comfort zone is a great way of testing yourself in previously untapped ways. Chances are, you’ll find out a lot about yourself that you can then relate to other aspects of and situations in your life.

Learn new skills

Ever feel like you want to try something completely different from the standard, run-of-the-mill hobbies or classes that are readily available to you? Sometimes you have to travel a little further afield than the local community centre to learn new skills, and you’ll certainly do that if you join up with Bushmasters. We’ll teach you a wide range of specialist skills, and we’re pretty confident that you won’t have been exposed to them before … unless you’re a seasoned traveler, in which case why are you reading this post?

See some incredible things

Why do you normally go on holiday? Is it the allure of the sun, the idea of being free from your email obligations, or the desire to see something different from the four walls of your office?

If it’s the latter, then a “survival holiday” could be the perfect fit. Regardless of the environment you’re in, you’ll see the world through a different lens while you’re working with it to survive. Come on one of our jungle survival trips and you’ll be thrust into an environment that’s completely alien to you. If you’re interested in getting an idea of the kinds of environments and animals you might be able to encounter on a survival trip, then our blog section is full of interesting pieces on both.
