Outline Brief
The next RAW Venture Special will be from August 4th to August 25th 2007.
This three week expedition starts with a 4x4 truck drive through the rainforest to get us to a remote jungle reserve of Iwokrama in the middle of Guyana. In this internationally acclaimed and protected area of rainforest we will spend a few days acclimatizing and doing some basic jungle training and adventure abseil training.
We will then leave our jungle training camp and head by boat along massive jungle rivers (including the Essequibo, the third largest river in South America) hoping to spot some giant Black Caiman, Macaws and Toucans along the way to our trek starting point. After a whole day on the rivers we then leave on foot into the vast mountainous expanse of the Pakaraima range for 12 days of trekking and adventure. This will be a tough trek, but the time is yours, and we will be able to go wherever we choose from day to day and stop along route when we find some cool waterfalls or abseiling rocks etc. We will spend time learning how to live off the rainforest, how to find water and food, how to build a shelter for the night and all with nothing more than a machete. We will also spend time making rafts from huge stems of bamboo and float down the jungle rivers.
The stunning expanse of pristine rainforest that we will be exploring is also the hunting ground of the Makushi Amerindians who still live a largely traditional life in small communities. We will have two elders from a local village work alongside the team and share their invaluable knowledge and stories of the area to us whilst on trek. The Amerindians still hunt in the area with traditional hand-made bow and arrows and there will be an opportunity to have some target practice or go off hunting with the guides if you would like.
After 12 days of adventure we remerge from the jungle into an indigenous savannah community where we will stay in a community ran lodge in thatched roundhouses for the night, before leaving the next day for a slightly more up-market lodge where good food, beers, a swimming pool and most importantly after time in the jungle, beds are all to hand. Here we will celebrate the success of this venture expedition in true style!

Costs
This is a three-week trip offering remote jungle exploration for all those who are on a tight budget. It is £850, excluding international flights and personal insurance. Read in more detail what this cost covers.

No place is reserved, until Bushmasters has confirmed receipt of a 25% non- refundable deposit. Once your place has been confirmed we will send you joining instructions detailing everything you will need to do before you come out to Guyana, including flight information. Full payment for the trip must be received at least 8 weeks prior to the trip start date.
