Venture

Come and combine everything in one venture trip, which will keep you on the edge and tested to the limit every minute. Only for those who really want to give everything a go!

Bushmasters offers both Standard and RAW venture.

Standard Trip

This 16-day trip takes you to the remote, pristine jungles of Guyana, in South America. With a Bushmasters instructor and the vast knowledge of two senior, local Amerindian guides you will learn just how easy and how much fun it is to live in the jungle.

As soon as you arrive in country we start the acclimatization and jungle training package. We'll give you all the essential jungle kit you need, and then fly you off in a light plane, hundreds of miles deep into the jungles of Guyana.

Here we will continue your training. You will get the chance to put up and sleep in your own hammock, learn how to use a machete safely, bathe in jungle rivers and take in all the wildlife and strange sounds the forest has to offer. We also have to sort out the gear we need to take. We have to carry as light a pack as possible, but still have all the food, camp equipment and safety kit we need for the adventure ahead.

Venture trips combine elements of survival, trek, training and a few extras thrown in just for the fun, including abseiling down jungle rock faces. Venture trips are non-stop and the team is always on the go. They are designed for those who want to try everything, and who have the physical and mental stamina to cope with it.

On a Venture trip we could be in rainforested mountains, or paddling down the jungle rivers, even taking a day to build a survival shelter and hunt or fish for our dinner that evening. These expeditions are geared towards flexibility so if you want to spend more time hunting, or walking, or surviving, or climbing giant silk cotton trees, then you probably can!

At the end of this adventure we will take you in another plane to see the world's tallest single drop waterfall, Kaieteur.

Following Kaieteur we fly off, back across the jungle with huge Tepui mountains in the distance. These are table top mountains, which just rise out of the jungle and were the inspiration for Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's story of "The Lost World." We cut over the Essequibo river, the third biggest in South America and wider than the Channel from Dover to Calais at its mouth and land on a small island in the middle of the river and back to the capital city of Georgetown.

Our final day and after a thankfully late breakfast, we head off by jet boat down the Essequibo and then transfer into a minibus for the hour or so ride to the airport and your flight home, ending your action packed stay and survival in the Amazon.

Raw Venture

Are you up for a jungle venture, but can't afford it right now... then maybe a RAW package is for you.

For a few trips every year, we cut out all the fancy luxurious items in an effort to reduce costs to the bare minimum. Light aircraft charters in and out of the jungle, stays in posh lodges and trips to waterfalls are all very expensive. Distances traveled are large plus the lodges have to be self sufficient. There is no electricity or sewage system - they have to build it all and do it in an environmentally friendly way, which all costs money.

On a RAW trip we will drive you for nearly 14 hours in a 4x4 truck in and out of the forest. There are no smart lodges for you to stay in and we're afraid it will be an additional expense if want to visit Kaieteur Falls. But, you get exactly the same amount of time in the jungle, with the same staff and all the opportunities to make a RAW Venture as action packed as our standard trip whilst in the jungle.

RAW Venture Special

Duration: 21 days
24th May - 14th June 2008
Cost: £950

After the success of our first Raw Venture Expedition in 2006, it has now become an annual event venturing into new areas of pristine rainforest every time. This expedition is made to meet the needs of those who want 'jungle fun' on a budget. The expedition is a one-off trip tailor made to meet the needs of those who want 'jungle fun' on a budget. It is raw jungle adventure from start to finish. There are none of the luxury jungle resorts included in a normal Bushmasters trip, or any internal flights... getting deep into the jungle in the back of an Army truck is all part of the experience. We aim to give you adventure in every form possible: trekking, dug-out canoes, bamboo rafting, abseiling, night-spotting, bow and arrow shooting, fishing for piranha and survival skills, all within a stunning area of mountainous jungle. This expedition is for those who don't mind roughing it. To read more about what you could be getting up to in the rainforests of South America click here.

"It was an incredible adventure, truly the trip of a lifetime! I was able to push myself outside of my comfort zone and experience things I never thought I would do. Thanks Bushmasters for an amazing experience."
