20 Sept - 11 Oct 2008
This is a very tough trip!
Only Bushmasters vets or those with considerable previous outdoors experience may take part
We head by bus and 4WD to the village of Nappi at the foot of the Kanuku mountains, a range that stretches across Guyana and few if any people ever have entered deep into it. That is where we're going. We’ll initially learn about living in the jungle properly. We’ll show you how to use a machete properly, chose a camp site, set up your hammock, light a fire, cook a meal and a host of other important skills for the jungle environment.
On this jungle training phase we'll also have a go at abseiling down waterfalls and fishing for the massive Himara, which regularly reach 30lbs plus and will feed the whole team for days.
For the next couple of weeks we'll be trekking in the Kanuku Mountains. The aim is to do a large circle within the mountain range, hoping to cover as much ground as possible and find some new cool things along route, waterfalls and petroglyphs (ancient rock carvings) etc. The mountains cover a huge area, so we can decide on the spot, how far and where we want to go. It is home to Jaguar, Harpy Eagles, and a host of other amazing jungle wildlife. We'll carry everything we need so no luxuries allowed. We’ll even be carrying only half rations, having to feed ourselves from the jungle for the remainder!
